Description and Requirements

The Senior Business Analyst (SBA) will participate in and/or lead workstream sessions with business stakeholders to understand their challenges and goals, and to help define systems-focused business processes and/or systems-changes necessary to solve them. The SBA is responsible for gathering and documenting system requirements for system features, articulating the value proposition for the proposed features, and supporting the development teams in their understanding of the features as they work to bring them to life. The SBA is responsible for planning and executing business validation with end-users, during the release testing cycles and post go-live. Additionally, as needed the SBA will assist with systems documentation and partner with the Change Management and Learning organizations to deliver pertinent information to impacted users. The SBA will assist the Product Owner and scrum team by leading or participating in agile ceremonies (sprint planning, refinement, etc) and will document stories using our delivery management system and help move them through the delivery life cycle. The SBA will lead or participate in analyzing data, creating, and maintaining reporting, recommending, and supporting decision making with the goal of both systems- and departmental-focused improvement. The Senior Business Analyst owns project goals by developing project plans, establishing deadlines, monitoring milestone completion, providing timely reporting of issues that impact progress and resolving conflicts. This includes documenting and prioritizing assignments.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Identify defects and improve departmental performance by supporting quality, operation efficiency and production goals 
  • Communicate departmentally and interdepartmentally to recommend and request new concepts and/or modifications to existing workflow, system set up, tools and designs 
  • Learn and evaluate new information, both technical and procedural, and then disseminate verbally and in writing to the Management Team and end-users of varying skill levels 
  • Analyze and implement improvement opportunities for the department (automation, productivity, quality, deficiencies, etc.) 
  • Document and/or review technical specifications to ensure the business requirements and value are adequately reflected  
  • Perform system configuration activities as needed.
  • Partner with our reporting teams and/or develop reports to trend systems effectiveness and usage
  • Recommend changes to address deficiencies and/or further improve and streamline performance based on analysis findings 
  • Responsible for the overall success of applicable testing, including results verification before Management team approval 
  • Provide resource planning and resolution of issues that impede the test effort 
  • Work with the IT Department in resolving important defects and ensuring the appropriate level of testing 
  • Work directly with appropriate members of the department and other Healthfirst business units to understand project concepts, objectives, and approach 
  • Assess and prepare to address the operational impacts, workflow, and training issues of the assigned project(s) 
  • Ensure post implementation accuracy   
  • Ability to work independently as well as leading in a team environment 
  • Mentor junior business analysts
  • Additional duties as assigned 


Minimum Qualifications:   

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution 
  • 3-5 years’ experience performing Business Analysis
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment and participating in or leading Agile ceremonies
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment and work with independence and initiative as well as strong problem-solving ability 
  • Demonstrated ability to work within regulatory and compliance guidelines 


Preferred Qualifications:   

  • Experience working in a Managed Care organization; understanding of authorizations-related and care management-related processes
  • Capability of multi-tasking including strong organizational and time management skills 
  • Ability and willingness to handle increasing workload and responsibility 
  • Strong ability to adapt to and apply the latest technology 
  • Research and analytical experience in examining problems and participation in implementing innovative solutions 
  • Work experience with access to confidential information and other data types 
  • Experience with in-depth manipulation of data to assist with root-causing, trending and summarization of projects presented to various level audiences 
  • Proficiency in Excel analytics and reporting functionality (pivot tables, graphs, v-lookup, etc.) 
  • Proficiency in Visio, SmartDraw or other process-flow development tools.



Hiring Range*:

  • Greater New York City Area (NY, NJ, CT residents): $87,300 - $126,140

  • All Other Locations (within approved locations): $78,900 - $117,385

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, licenses and certifications, and any other factors Healthfirst deems pertinent to the hiring decision.
