Description and Requirements

The Senior Manager of Actuarial Services is responsible for coordinating and performing the analysis of the quarterly forecast for all lines of business, as well as monitoring performance of product line against the budget/forecast each month. This individual builds and maintains all forecast models and works closely with Budget quarterly in the preparation of any forecast presentations. This individual uses knowledge of business and economics provide strategic, commercial and financial advice in:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring performance on all lines of business and update forecasts as appropriate
  • Responsible for EMR actual versus budget/forecast variance analytics in each monthly close
  • Build and maintain Healthfirst’s quarterly forecast models.
  • Responsible for Medical Cost trend / pharmacy trend analytics to inform budget and forecast trend setting
  • Responsible for Long Term Forecast model, and corresponding input in ORSA filing.
  • Participate in monthly close meetings, Quarterly Business Reviews, and Annual Budget with Product, and prepare and facilitate product performance discussion materials and ad-hoc analysis on all lines of business.
  • Manage and direct staff as appropriate.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Math, Economics or any related degree
  • Work experience within Managed Care, Medicare/Commercial Healthcare or Hospital in the actuarial field
  • Experience with budget/forecast and relevant methodologies, IBNR analysis, and product and segment analysis.
  • Work experience in actuarial analysis of Medicare/Commercial products
  • Ability to define fields, create databases, create queries on multiple reports in Microsoft Access
  • Ability to create pivot tables, v-lookups and creating macros in Microsoft Excel
  • Work experience with financial reporting, modeling and valuation 
  • Ability to collect, analyze and summarize qualitative/quantitative data analytics, specifically managing complex actuarial tasks that have a large financial or risk impact

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ASA designation (Associate, Society of Actuaries)
  • Ability to build consensus across various business units
  • Ability to work on multiple projects
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams
  • Strong planning and organizational skills, with an ability to establish a strategic direction and subsequently outline initiatives
  • Strategic thinker, creative, innovative, and execution focused turning ideas into measurable meaningful results

Hiring Range*:

  • Greater New York City Area (NY, NJ, CT residents): $119,900 - $183,430

  • All Other Locations (within approved locations): $102,600 - $156,655

As a candidate for this position, your salary and related elements of compensation will be contingent upon your work experience, education, licenses and certifications, and any other factors Healthfirst deems pertinent to the hiring decision.
