Description and Requirements

Develop and implement a plan for controlling medical costs through Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Clinical Officer is a key member of the Healthfirst Executive team engaged in defining the overall business strategy and direction of the organization. The Chief Clinical Officer leads Healthfirst’s overall clinical vision by chairing quality committees, working with other senior leaders on care and utilization management, and liaising with other key stakeholders. The Chief Clinical Officer provides medical oversight, expertise, and leadership to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare services. Their responsibilities also include the strategy, development and implementation of innovative clinical programs that include collaboration with strategic business partners.
  • Manages and oversees team to sets the strategy, direction, policies, and goals for Healthfirst’s Clinical departments
  • Interfaces with the Board of Directors, CEO, regulators, and other medical employees on clinical and quality initiatives
  • Makes recommendations to the CEO on medical issues related to rate setting, benefit design, and corporate strategy
  • Chairs clinical committees and proactively monitors clinical departments, performance, quality programs, and budgets
  • Makes utilization management and medical appeals determinations
  • Collaborates with network and providers on credentialing, ancillary contracting, MSO, and other pertinent matters.
  • Develops and monitors team goals; provides ongoing feedback and coaching; conducts annual performance reviews; leads by example; and ensures an atmosphere of open communication, teamwork, and empowerment to make informed decisions   
  • Additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Board certified MD

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Senior management experience in a managed care organization
  • Graduate degree in a related field such as an MBA or a Master’s in Hospital Administration
  • Demonstrated knowledge about current healthcare regulations, trends and best practices
  • Excellent communication, project and time management, critical thinking, and problem solving skills
  • Extensive change management experience in the areas of: communications, stakeholder/leadership engagement, development, training, and implementation
  • Exceptional team leadership skills, including the ability to effectively mentor, develop, motivate and empower team members
